A super cute Easter bunny basket to store your easter eggs — or your chocolate stash! Every year around this time, there are usually special easter egg chocolates. My favorite ones are the ferrero eggs.
Materials:
- ribbon for the bow on top
- white yarn (worsted weight) size 4, or doubling up a size 3 yarn
- amigurumi doll eyes
- scissor
- 5mm crochet hook
- crochet needle
- embroidery needle
- pink embroidery thread for the nose
- yellow embroidery thread for the whiskers and mouth
- A fork or a pom pom maker
Basket
Round 1 – Magic ring with 12 double crochet, slip stitch to close the circle, chain 2
Round 2 – increase with double crochet around, slip stitch to close the circle, chain 2
Round 3 – increase with double crochet around, slip stitch to close the circle, chain 1
(Now we will work on the top stitch only so that we can build a wall on top of the base)
(You will start on the stitch that you currently have your chain on, which is the first stitch)
Round 4 – half double crochet around, slip stitch to close circle, chain 1
Round 5 – half double crochet around, slip stitch to close circle, chain 1
Round 6 – half double crochet around, slip stitch to close circle, chain 1
Round 7 – half double crochet around, slip stitch to close circle, chain 1
Round 8 – half double crochet around, slip stitch to close circle, chain 1
(Now start on the 2nd stitch instead of the first)
Round 9 – half double crochet around, slip stitch to close circle, chain 1
Round 10 – half double crochet around, slip stitch to close circle, chain 1
Round 11 – half double crochet around, slip stitch to close circle, chain 1
Round 12 – half double crochet around, slip stitch to close circle
Close by cutting the yarn and just pulling the yarn out
Put the amigurumi doll eyes about 6 rows from the bottom. The right eye will be 8 stitches to the right of the left one.
Use the pink embroidery thread to embroider a small triangle between the eyes one row down.
Use yellow embroidery thread to embroider a whisker about 1.5 stitches below the eyes and across. Embroider the bottom and top whispers 45 degrees from the middle whisker.
Use yellow embroidery thread to make a “W” shaped mouth underneath the nose.
Ears (make 2)
Chain 10 Row 1 – single stitch starting from 2nd stitch from hook, turn (9)
Row 2 – chain 1, single stitch across, turn (9) Row 3 – chain 1, single stitch across, turn (9)
Row 4 – chain 1, single crochet 2 together, single stitch for next 5 stitches, single crochet 2 together, turn (7)
Row 5 – chain 1, single stitch across, turn (7)
Row 6 – chain 1, single stitch across, turn (7)
Row 7 – chain 1, single stitch across, turn (7)
Row 8 – chain 1, single crochet 2 together, single stitch for next 3 stitches, single crochet 2 together, turn (5)
Row 9 – chain 1, single stitch across, turn (5)
Row 10 – chain 1, single stitch across, turn (5)
Row 11 – chain 1, single stitch across, turn (5)
Row 12 – chain 1, single crochet 2 together, single stitch for next 1 stitch, single crochet 2 together, turn (3)
Row 13 – chain 1, single stitch across, turn (3)
Row 14 – chain 1, single stitch across, turn (3)
Row 15 – chain 1, single stitch across, turn (3)
Row 16 – chain 1, single crochet 2 together
To end: slip stitch
Assembling ears:
Use a crochet needle and some yarn to sew the ears on the side of the basket. Start on the inside of the top row of the basket and poke your needle through the 2nd row from the bottom on one of the ears. Then put your needle onto the next row of the ear and poke it back through the basket. Then poke your needle to the next stitch and through to the ear and do the same thing. Essentially, you will be sewing diagonals back and forth through the basket and ear.
Pom Pom Tail
You can use your pom pom maker or a fork
- Cut a small piece of yarn of about 6 inches and place it in between the middle tooth of your fork
- Wrap some yarn around the yarn until you feel like there is a nice bunch
- Cut that yarn
- Use the small piece of yarn that you left in between the middle tooth and tie a really strong knot. Secure it by tying multiple knots
- Slip the bunch off the fork
- Hold the middle tightly with your fingers, squeezing where the knot is
- Cut the top part of the bunch
- Cut the bottom part of the bunch
- Cut any strings you missed
- Fluff out pom pom
- Trim some stray ends you see. You can trim it round as if you were styling your dog’s hair
Assembling the tail:
Use the tail ends of your knot you made and poke it through the back of the basket and tie a couple of knots. I like to take the extra measure of taking each end of the tail and slipping it to the adjacent stitches and pulling it back in the middle original stitch you poked through before making a knot.
Bow on Top
- Take your crochet hook and push the ribbon through the very top stitch on the tip of the ear.
- Do the same thing on the other ear with the end of your ribbon.
- Tie a bow
- Cut the ribbon
